6.1 quake hits Zambales, infra damage, power outage reported in Luzon

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit Zambales on Monday although it was felt in other parts of Luzon, including in Metro Manila, damaging infrastructure and causing power outage in the affected areas, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In a statement on its website, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was recorded at 18 kilometers northeast of Castillejos. It happened at 5:11 p.m., was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 12 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in San Felipe in Zambales and in Quezon City, Phivolcs said.
In a live interview on radio dzMM, Phivolcs Officer-in Charge Renato Solidum said Intensity 4 was recorded in Pampanga; Pasig, San Juan and Marikina in Metro Manila. Intensity 3 was felt in Cavite, San Jose Del Monte and Bulacan.
Solidum said no tsunami warning was raised as the quake, which lasted for about 10 seconds, was “not that strong” although aftershocks may be expected.
Marlou Salazar, director of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Central Luzon, said his office in San Fernando, Pampanga experienced power outage.
Salazar also said that the there were people who experienced dizziness following the quake, and received reports of two others who were hurt in Porac, Pampanga after a heavy object fell on them.
“They were already brought to a hospital. We are also checking other places where there may be power outage.”
As of posting time, Salazar told reporters that the OCD in Central Luzon was contacting the disaster management office of Zambales and other provinces, which were affected by the quake.
People were also evacuated from SM Pampanga, Salazar said.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said it has yet to receive reports of damage and aftershocks. DEMPSEY REYES
