A rejuvenated Rain or Shine will try to stretch its lead to 3-1 against Magnolia when they clash at 7 p.m. tonight in Game 4 of their best-of-seven semifinals series in Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters won Game 1 (84-77) and Game 2 (93-80) but the Hotshots took Game 3 (74-85) on Tuesday.
“It is basketball, I think both teams have enough time to rest and make adjustments and get ready for tomorrow’s game but I’m confident in us. We already got two and then we can get another one,” said Gabe Norwood, who praised Magnolia’s stellar Game 3 performance.
“Magnolia just showed why they are a championship caliber team. They came out and played hard in all quarters. Down the stretch, we just didn’t make the plays that needed to be done. So kudos to them for playing hard all the way through.”
Rookie Javee Mocon emerged as Game 3 hero with 18 points and nine rebounds supported by Beau Belga with 12 points and seven rebounds.
“We only earned a good chance of tying the series. What is good here is the players were able to rest and get fresh legs and mind although both teams have their chance tomorrow,” Magnolia coach Chito Victolero told The Manila Times on Sunday.
The Hotshots returned to practice on Friday after a two-day break.
“It’s already Game 4 and by now the players have already know their strength and weaknesses. But they are also coming from a vacation. I’m sure Rain or Shine has prepared new strategies for tomorrow’s game,” added Victolero.
Ian Sangalang’s eight points in the final canto proved crucial to Magnolia’s victory in Game 3. He finished with 16 points total plus 11 rebounds. Paul Lee also contributed 16 points in that game.
