SEVERAL roads in Metro Manila will undergo repairs starting on Wednesday night all through the Holy Week break, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said earlier in the day.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will conduct road reblocking activities in four Metro Manila road sections at 11 p.m.
DPWH National Capital Region Director Ador Canlas said the MMDA cleared the repair of two road sections of EDSA — the southbound lane from New York Street to Aurora Boulevard and the northbound lane from the KM 27+019 marker to KM 26+921.
The middle lane of C-5 Road in front of SM Aura and the southbound truck lane of Katipunan Avenue from D.B. Dela Rosa St. will also be closed for repairs.
The MMDA advised motorists to take alternate routes because of the expected traffic build-up on the affected roads until they open at 5 a.m. on Monday.
The agency also closed the Tripa de Gallina Bridge or Buendia Bridge in Pasay City on Wednesday midnight for repairs.
MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said the bridge, which was in “very poor” condition, would be reopened at noon on Easter Sunday.
“The rehabilitation has already started but private contractors required the bridge’s full closure for some concrete pouring works,” said Garcia.
Affected motorists from Buendia Avenue going to Taft Avenue are advised to take Emilia Street.
A counter flow lane will be opened on a portion of Buendia Avenue to accommodate public utility buses and cargo trucks along the major thoroughfare.
The MMDA anticipates a low volume of vehicles in Metro Manila during Holy Week as people are on vacation in the provinces or just staying at their homes.
The agency, however, expects heavy traffic on EDSA as the Department of Transportation deployed hundreds of passenger buses while the Metro Rail Transit 3 undergoes maintenance work for the rest of the Lenten break. NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
