Sixty-three drivers from 10 countries saw action in the first round of the 2019 IAME Series Asia (ISA) at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) Kart Track in Pampanga recently.
The Philippines’ own 10-year old karter William Go dominated the Cadet Category in a tight race to the finish. “The track was super fast and bordered on being dangerous for our class,” said Go after the race. “I would like to thank my parents and team for making this win possible.”
The first international race to hit the country this year took on a carnival atmosphere, with colorful Petron banners and flags adding to the visual excitement. Comprising 13 high-speed turns and long stretches, the CIS Kart Circuit offered a whole new racing experience to many of the drivers racing here for the first time.
The foreign drivers, who were used to slower and more technical tracks, had to gather their nerves and trust their skills to perform overtaking maneuvers under full throttle. Fortunately, the weather leading up to the races was sunny and breezy, which was ideal for racing in such a demanding circuit.
The ISA first round brought to Clark one of the largest grids the track has seen. However, a few Filipinos competed in the first round. Also, the increased number of drivers resulted in spills and luckily, none were serious.
The following results for the various categories for the first round of the ISA 2019:
Cadet: William Go (Philippines) of AutoInc Racing finished first, Timofey Mikhaylov (Malaysia) of DRM Racing second, and Aditya Wibowo (Indonesia) of Baby Race Asia third
Junior Category: Gerrard Xie (Hong Kong) of IS Racing finished first, Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak (Thailand) also of IS Racing second, and Putera Adam (Malaysia) also of IS Racing third.
Senior Category—Amer Harris Jefry (Malaysia) of DRM Racing first place, Dick Yu (Hong Kong) of PR1 Racing second place, and Diptya Oktadewa (Indonesia) of Stratos G51 third place.
Master Category—Adrian Ferguon (Singapore) of Stratos G51 first place, Mark Domashenz (Singapore) also of Stratos G51 second place, and Kelvin Yong (Singapore) also of Stratos G51 third place.
Veteran Category—Adrian Ferguon (Singapore) of Stratos G51 first place, Benjamin Chiang (Singapore) of AutoInc Racing second place, and Yongboon Tirachaimongkol (Thailand) of Maxima Motorsports third place.
Rommel Herce of the Philippines from Focal Praga Racing finished fourth in the Veteran Category.
The next leg of the 2019 ISA will be staged in Bira Kart, Pattaya, Thailand on May 11 to 12.
