CIDG nabs Liberian for online love scam

MANILA, Philippines — A Liberian who duped a public school teacher in an online love scam was arrested in an entrapment operation in a shopping mall in Makati on Friday night.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police arrested 41-year-old Junior Kwigaye, also known as Clayton Eaton Stanfford, in the vicinity of Glorietta 4 at around 9:30 p.m.
The CIDG conducted the operation based on the complaint of a “Miss Annie,” who became friends with a certain “Richard Wilson” through Facebook and later on the became online lovers.
Wilson introduced himself as lieutenant general of the United Nation (UN) military forces assigned in Yemen.
Wilson then told Miss Annie that he would want to take a vacation in the Philippines. He then instructed the woman to write to the United Nation’s Vacation Section Department and ask for luggage containing a vacation allowance of $850,000.
Miss Annie then got a call from Kwigaye, who introduced himself as a diplomat. He told her that she would need to pay $900 for the UN Vacation Form and another $7,800 for luggage delivering fee.
Kwigaye also instructed her to deliver P125,000 to him and a “Mr. Sam” at the New World Hotel in Makati last March 30.
Kwigaye was taken into custody at the CIDG office for documentation and filing of charges.
