Street dancing kicks off Bangus Festival in Dagupan City

DAGUPAN CITY – A street dancing competition in major streets here on Friday  kicked off the annual  Bangus (milkfish) Festival.

Performers from the city’s different villages were clustered to form six teams that will vie for the top prize of P200,000.

The participants were garbed in colorful costumes and props in their performances to depict bangus – growing traditions of the city.

This city is widely known for its its home-grown bangus, which said to be the country’s tastiest.

Emma Molina, city agriculturist, said bangus fingerlings are grown in a total of 910 hectares of fishponds.

The festival, which was first staged in 2002, will also feature a ‘bangus rodeo’, where the city’s biggest and heaviest bangus will be pitted against each other.

Another highlight will be the cookfest,  featuring the different ways of cooking and preparing bangus.

The festival will be capped by a street party on April 30 at the De Venecia Highway, where a simultaneous grilling of bangus will be held.

The winners in the Best in Costume, Best in Street Dance and Best in Musicality will each receive P20,000. /gsg
