THE Luzon grid was placed on red alert anew because a power plant went on “forced outage,” the Department of Energy (DoE) said on Thursday.

Quoting the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the DoE said the SMC Consolidated Power Corp.’s Limay Unit 2 said the outage at 6:32 p.m. may be because of a boiler tube leak.

“The Luzon Grid is once again placed on ‘red alert’ starting 6:22 p.m. due to generation deficiency,” it added.

Currently, the power plant’s personnel are conducting a cooldown of the boiler for its inspection and possible repair, which is expected to last for five days.

“Limay committed to file a formal report to the DoE,” the department said.

The NGCP defines red alert as a system condition when there is zero ancillary service (AS) or a generation deficiency exists. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
