SC orders filing of criminal raps vs Sulpicio Lines Inc. exec over sea tragedy

THE Supreme Court has ordered the revival of criminal charges before a local court against an official of a shipping firm regarding the deaths of more than 200 passengers in an accident involving one its vessels.
In a 20-page decision penned by Justice Jose C. Reyes, Jr., the Court’s Third Division approved the consolidated petitions by Public Attorneys Office Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta and the families of the 227 fatalities of the M/V Princess of the Stars against Edgar Go of Sulpicio Lines Inc. who is facing charges of reckless imprudence against the Manila City Regional Trial Court.
The High Court reversed and set aside the March 22, 2013 decision and the January 8, 2014 resolution of the Court of Appeals that ruled in favor of Go, SLI First Vice-President for Administration and team leader of the Crisis Management Committee. JOMAR CANLAS
The ship sank near Sibuyan Island in Romblon at the height of Typhoon Frank (international name: Fengshen) on June 21, 2008.
