LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Trevor Bauer flirted with the Cleveland Indians’ first no-hitter since 1981 on Thursday night, throwing seven superb innings in a 4-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Bauer, who struck out eight batters, combined with two relievers to take the no-hit bid into the ninth, but the Jays busted it up with a lead off single in the final frame.
The 28-year-old Bauer maintained the no-hitter through seven innings despite walking six Toronto batters. He ended the seventh by fanning Lourdes Gurriel, Alen Hanson and Brando Drury.

Jon Edwards sandwiched a pair of walks around a hit batter to load the bases for Toronto in the eighth. But reliever Brad Hand got Gurriel to pop out to the infield to end the threat.
Blue Jays Freddy Galvis then led off the ninth with a single off Hand which put an end to Cleveland’s first no-hit bid since Len Barker threw a perfect game against Toronto on May 15, 1981.
Hanson followed with another single, and Teoscar Hernandez ripped a pinch-hit RBI double to left field.
