A SANGGUNIANG Barangay (Village Council) member who yielded half a million pesos worth of shabu and ammunition was arrested by the police in his residence at Purok Bakhaw, Barangay Mangoto, Pinamungahan town in south Cebu on Wednesday.
Police arrested Socrates Bancog, 41, a Sangguniang Barangay member of Barangay Mangoto based on a search warrant issued by Judge Leopoldo Cañete of the Regional Trial Court Branch 60 of Barili, Cebu.
Capt. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Cebu said confiscated from Bancog’s house were 17 live bullets and two speed reloaders of a caliber .38 revolver, and 15 packs of shabu estimated by the Dangerous Drugs Board to amount to P510,000.
Batobalonos said Bancog who was on the drug watchlist, had been under surveillance for about three weeks.
He denied possessing the seized banned substance, but admitted that he owned several firearms, however, the police did not find any firearms in his house.
“His sister told us they would surrender the firearms but it was too late because we already secured a search warrant,” Batobalonos said.
The police insisted that Bancog had been in the illegal drugs trade for a long time.
