Foton clobbered Sta. Lucia, 12-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15, to snap its 11-game slide in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Spanish import Milagros Collar waxed hot while Jaja Santiago Mina Aganon chipped in significant numbers for the Tornadoes, who are looking to avoid finishing last in the preliminaries of this prestigious women’s club tourney bankrolled by Asics, Mueller, Mikasa, Senoh, Team Rebel Sports, Bizooku, UCPB Gen, Cocolife, Hotel Sogo and Data Project.

Collar, a member of the Spanish national team, finished with 15 points while Santiago and Aganon had 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for Foton, which won its opening-day match against United VC before suffering an 11-game losing skein.

With that, the Tornadoes improved to 2-11 and a victory in their last match would give them a chance to avoid powerhouse Petron in the quarterfinals.

“I hope that this will serve as a morale booster for the team, we’ve been from a very tough situation and we have no one to count on to but ourselves,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez, who drew 11 markers from American reinforcement Courtney Felinski.

“Honestly, we’re still struggling, it was very evident in the game, still I am optimistic that we can start from this one,” he added.

Rachel Austero and Casey Schoenlein had 12 points each while Molly Lohman had 11 markers for Sta. Lucia, which is now tied with Foton at the bottom of the standings of this tourney that also has ESPN5 and 5Plus as broadcast partners.
