DoH records 48,000 dengue cases

The Department of Health disclosed yesterday that over 48,000 dengue cases have been reported nationwide.
Latest data from the DoH-Epidemiology Bureau said there were 48,634 dengue cases, including 184 deaths, reported from Jan. 1 to March 16.
The figure is higher compared to the 28,328 cases, including 150 deaths, recorded during the same period last year.
Central Visayas has the most number of cases with 5,421; followed by the National Capital Region with 4,855; Calabarzon with 4,815; Caraga with 4,570; and Central Luzon with 4,009.
The DoH said that the most affected age group is five- to nine-years-old with 12,424 cases.
It added that 65 barangays in 35 cities and municipalities have been identified as dengue hotspots which are areas when there is clustering and increasing number of cases for two consecutive weeks.
Provinces with identified dengue hotspots are Apayao, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, North and South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur. (Analou de Vera)
