SENATOR-turned-businessman Manuel “Manny” Villar is the richest Filipino in a list of over 2,000 billionaires by Forbes magazine.
Ranked 317th , Villar has a net worth of about $5.5 billion (P287.4 billion), according to Forbes, which released its list on March 5. Villar is the chairman of Starmalls and Vista & Landscapes.
Aside from Villar, the Forbes list showed 16 other billionaires from the Philippines.
They are: JG Summit’s John Gokongwei Jr., International Container Terminal Services’ (ICTSI) Enrique Razon Jr., businessman Lucio Tan, Jollibee founder Tony Tan Caktiong and his family, San Miguel’s Ramon Ang, Alliance Global’s Andrew Tan, Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, Robert Coyiuto Jr., Century Pacific’s Ricardo Po and his family, and Alphaland’s Roberto Ongpin.
All six children of the late SM founder Henry Sy, Sr.: namely Hans, Herbert, Harley, Henry Jr., Teresita, and Elizabeth have also made the list.
The world’s richest person on the Forbes list is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his family, with a net worth of US$131 billion (P6.8 trillion), followed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg are also among the top 10 richest people on the list.
