The Philippine National Police-Counter-Intelligence Task Force arrested another rookie policeman for alleged extortion in Pampanga last Friday.
Police Col. Romeo Caramat, PNP-CITF director, said the operation that resulted into the arrest of Patrolman Rosario Vanzuela stemmed from the complaint of a motorist who figured in an accident last Feb. 15 in Mabalacat City with a patrol vehicle of Mabalacat police station.
“The accident involves a private motorist and a patrol vehicle of the Mabalacat City police station,” said Caramat.
Based on the complaint lodged at the PNP-CITF, Vanzuela was allegedly forcing the victim to pay P15,000 for the repair of the car.
The rookie cop also allegedly told the victim that he would only release his driver’s license if he would pay the amount.
The victim filed a complaint at the PNP-CITF. Caramat said they immediately set up an entrapment operation in a convenience store near the gate of the Clark Freeport Zone.
“The suspect was arrested after receiving the marked money,” said Caramat.
More or less 100 policemen have been arrested – almost all of them for alleged extortion – since the creation of the PNP-CITF two years ago.
Five policemen allegedly involved in the illegal drugs trade have been killed by the PNP-CITF.
