48 drug suspects arrested in round-the-clock weekend operations in Quezon City

THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) apprehended 48 drug suspects in separate round-the-clock anti-illegal drug and anti-criminality operations over the weekend.

The Cubao Police Station arrested Myrna Halong, 44, and seized 24 sachets of shabu valued at P13,600 in Barangay E. Rodriguez, Cubao at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, 0.32 grams of shabu with a street value of P4,200 were seized in a buy-bust sting in Barangay Payatas at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. Seven suspects were arrested and identified as Evaresto Padecio, 38, Marife Padecio, 37, and Bedencia Pepito, 64, all from Barangay Payatas; Fredie Apuzaga, 35, Mechael Daigan, 37, and Decoroso Tabucao, 28, all from Barangay Batasan; and Harold Ramos, 25, from Barangay Commonwealth.

Other suspects were arrested in separate buy-busts in Barangay Project 6, Barangay Greater Fairview, Barangay Holy Spirit, Barangay Sto. Niño, and Barangay Tatalon where 2 to 8 sachets of shabu were seized in each operation.

Two suspects were apprehended in Project 6 after a concerned citizen tipped off information of an illegal drug activity. Emilda Antonio, 47, Edward Paderna, 44, were arrested at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday with two sachets of shabu.

An illegal gambling operation also led to the arrest of Basilio De Lima, 48, in Novaliches at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police found a sachet of shabu after the suspect was frisked. Three of his companions escaped.

Others were apprehended for possession of marijuana. In Barangay Sto. Domingo, Jerome Ugat, 21 was arrested after he was caught with a glass tube pipe with traces of burned marijuana at 11 p.m. on Saturday.

A buy-bust operation in Barangay Central at 10:45 p.m. on Saturday led to the arrest of Joshua Pangilinan, 18. Confiscated were six sachets of marijuana and a glass tube pipe with traces of burnt marijuana.

The QCPD reported that the suspects would be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

QCPD Director Joselito Esquivel Jr. said the operations were part of an ongoing campaign against illegal drugs and crimes as the mid-term elections near.

Esquivel commended the operatives for their relentless anti-illegal drugs operations resulting in the arrest of the suspects. He said this was part of the continuing campaign of QCPD against illegal drugs and all forms of crimes. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
