MANILA, Philippines — The Kennon Road in Baguio City will be temporarily opened to light vehicles to give way for motorists going to the city in time for the Panagbenga Festival and the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Homecoming, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar announced Wednesday.
Villar said the historic road would be opened to light vehicles with a maximum weight of five tons from Feb. 14 to 18 and Feb. 22 to March 4.
“The DPWH-Cordillera Administrative Region and other members of Kennon Road Task Force (KRTF) have agreed to open Kennon Road just for motorists going to Baguio,” Villar said in a statement.

He said motorists leaving Baguio can utilize Marcos Highway, Naguilian Road or the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-Tubao road.
The opening of the Kennon Road would reduce the volume of vehicles traversing the Marcos Highway for the upcoming Baguio events, Villar said.
The temporary opening of the said road during weekends was recommended by the KRTF to give enough time for the Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) to complete the ongoing projects during weekdays.
The KRTF is headed by the Office of Civil Defense and composed of regional offices of DPWH, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection , the local government units of Tuba and Baguio City and other stakeholders. /jpv
