Pusher killed in Tondo drug bust

AN alleged notorious drug pusher was killed in a shootout with policemen following an entrapment operation in Tondo, Manila, early Friday morning.
The police identified the suspect as Jericho Matija, 27, a Commando Gang member and resident of Sampayan Kagitingan Street, Tondo Manila.
Investigation showed that the anti-drug operatives of Moriones Police Station conducted a buy-bust operation against Matija after they received information regarding his illegal drug activities at Pier 2, Parola Compound, Barangay 20, Tondo, at around 2:10 a.m. on Feb. 8
Police said the suspect sold shabu to a police poseur-buyer.
Sensing that he was transacting with anti-narcotics operatives, the suspect pulled out his .38-caliber gun and fired shots at the poseur-buyer, according to police.
When police cornered the suspect, Matija pulled out again his gun and fired shots at the officers.
The cops retaliated, hitting Matija in the different parts of the body. He was rushed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center but he was declared dead on arrival.
Recovered from the suspect were 10 sachets of suspected shabu, one .38-caliber gun, two pieces of shell and two live ammunition, P400 cash used as the buy-bust money, and a brown pouch.
It was learned that Matija was a notorious drug pusher involved in robbery hold-up activities in the area. (Erma Edera)
