COTABATO CITY: The Police Regional Office 12 (PRO 12) based in General Santos City under the command of Regional Director and Chief Supt. Eliseo Tam Rasco deployed personnel to safeguard the second Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) plebiscite in North Cotabato on Wednesday.
The team is composed of 582 personnel from PRO 12 Regional Headquarters, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, City/Provincial Mobile Force Company and Alert Company.
They have been at their respective areas of responsibilities since February 4 and will be recalled on February 8.
Michael Abas, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Region 12 director, in his message at send-off rites for the police team, thanked PRO 12 for their support particularly in the peaceful BOL plebiscite in Cotabato City last January 21.
Abas said the towns included in the second plebiscite are Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, Midsayap, Pikit, Pigcawayan and Tulunan, all in North Cotabato province.
“The Comelec is confident that the plebiscite that will be held today (February 6) with its affiliates from the PNP (Philippine National Police) and the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), will be safe and successful,” he added.
Daniel Macatlang Jr., director of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operation-Western Mindana, also in another message to the police personnel, shared his personal experiences about his visit to blast sites in Jolo, Sulu, where twin explosions last week left more than 20 dead and dozens injured.
He told the personnel to be careful in responding to any incident that may happen and to be extra vigilant about unusual activities of people during the plebiscite.
Macatlang appealed to those who plan to sow violence on plebiscite day not to carry out their evil intentions.
Meanwhile, Rasco commended the PRO 12 for its role in the January 21 BOL plebiscite in Cotabato City that resulted in secure, peaceful and orderly conduct of the plebiscite.
