FOUR persons of interest in the twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu on January 27 surrendered to the military on Wednesday.

“They are considered as POIs [persons of interests], not suspects, if they come out clean then good enough, our manhunt operations are still ongoing against the suspects,” said Brig. Gen. Divino Rey Pabayo, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu.

Alshaber Arbi, 18 and Gerry Isnajil, who were seen on CCTV before the explosions at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral, surrendered to authorities at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

Arbi is a Grade 11 student of Kalingalan Caluang National High School while Isnajil is a teacher in the same school.

Two more persons of interest — Alsimar Mohammad Albi, 24 and Julius Abdulzam Albi, 17 — surrendered to the provincial police at about 3 p.m.

The Albis went to a nearby pharmacy to buy medicine for Alshimar’s mother who was confined at a hospital in Sulu when the explosion from the cathedral happened, prompting them to go near the area of the blast, the Western Mindanao Command said.

The two also said that they did not know the other suspects and came out for fear of being hunted down.
