Unidentified motorcycle-riding men shot dead a consultant of the National Democratic Front (NDF) involved in the peace process between the government and the communist rebels, inside a passenger bus in Aritao town of Nueva Vizcaya early yesterday morning.
Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, director of the Cagayan Valley regional police, said that he had already created a special investigation task force to look into the killing of Felix Randy Malayao, Jr.
Malayao was inside the bus which was parked at the CCQ Bus Terminal for a regular stop when a gunman boarded the vehicle and shot him twice at close range.
Espino said that the attack occurred while the driver and other passengers were having early morning meal at the bus station. Malayao reportedly stayed inside the bus.
“The suspect immediately boarded a motorcycle driven by another person and fled,” said Espino.
Based on the police and military intelligence report, Malayao used to be a member of the New People’s Army. He is reportedly the current head of the Regional White Area Committee of the communist rebels in Cagayan Valley region.
The RWAC is reportedly in charge of the operations of the legal fronts of the communist rebels.
According to reports, Malayao was also implicated and charged in connection with the death of Cagayan Rep. Rodolfo Aguinaldo and his aide in 2001. He was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
In May 2008, he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) under the name of Salvador de Pueblo but was again released in 2012. (Aaron Recuenco)
