NDF consultant shot dead in Nueva Vizcaya

ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya: A high profile consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) was shot dead inside a bus during a stopover here on Wednesday at about 2:30 a.m.
Randy Malayao was asleep when the gunman approached him and fired, killing him on the spot. The bus was parked at the CCQ bus stop terminal.
The suspect quickly came down the bus and then boarded his getaway motorcycle driven by his companion, police said in its initial investigation.
Authorities recovered one fired bullet and two pieces of fired cartridge case.
Malayao was reportedly going home to Isabela when the incident happened. His family from Barangay (village) Minaga in San Pablo town, Isabela said they would bring Malayao’s body to his home province.
As an NDFP consultant, Malayao is a holder of a GRP-NDF (Goverment of the Philippines-National Democratic Front) Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees identification card that should have given him immunity from arrest, harassment and attacks.
He was also a columnist of the Baguio City-based newspaper Northern Dispatch.
Malayao was also coordinator for the group of political prisoners and detainees called SELDA (Samahan ng mga Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto).
Investigation by local police here is still ongoing.
Edre Olalia, NDF legal consultant, in a statement, said: “These series of attacks follow one thread: Get those who fight the oppressive and exploitative system and who work for fundamental change fast and quick.”
