THE Philippines will be acquiring more missiles from Israel as part of the ongoing modernization program of the military, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Thursday.
The acquisition is apart from the Rafael Advanced Defense Ltd. Surface-to-surface Spike-ER missiles installed on the multi-purpose assault craft of the Philippine Navy, which was tested last year and witnessed by Lorenzana himself and Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, the Navy flag officer-in-command.
In a text message to reporters, however, Lorenzana said he did not know the “exact number” of the new SPYDER missiles, anti-air missiles or Surface-to-air Python and DERby mobile-air defense system developed by the Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with assistance from Israel Aerospace Industries.
