Slower ‘Amang’ takes path toward Leyte

MANILA — Tropical Depression “Amang” slowed down after making landfall over Siargao Island and as it continued to move toward Southern Leyte on Monday morning.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Signal No. 1 remained over Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Bohol, Northern Cebu, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Meanwhile, TCWS 1 over Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Camiguin has been lifted.
Moderate to heavy rain is expected over Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and the Bicol Region.
Amang made landfall over Siargao Island on Sunday night.
As of 4 a.m., Monday, the tropical cyclone was spotted 70 kilometers north of Surigao City, with maximum sustained winds of up to 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 60 kph.
It was slower while moving west-northwest at 10 kph, down from 25 kph from 1 a.m. Monday.
Weather specialist Meno Mendoza said Amang was expected to weaken into a low pressure area in the coming days. /cbb
