THE Philippine National Railways will officially use its first-ever locally-made train developed by the Department of Science and Technology (DoST).
DoST Secretary Fortunato dela Pena said the train passed all the required tests and only the result of RAMS (reliability, availability, maintainability and safety)
is being awaited before the train is allowed to travel along the Tutuban-Alabang route starting on March 1.
“Within the first quarter this year. PNR is just validating the result of RAMS that we conducted September to November last year,” dela Pena told the Manila Times when asked as to when the train would be operational.
The secretary, who taught at UP College Engineering for almost four decades, said he was proud because, unlike those used in many countries, the Philippine-made train used lithium batteries and not purely diesel. ED VELASCO
