ANOTHER Filipino drowned in New Zealand, the second in a week, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato did not name the 20-year-old victim who, the Philippine embassy in Wellington said, was swimming with friends on the Whanganui River, about 150 kilometers northwest of Wellington when the incident happened on Wednesday night.
The victim’s body was recovered on Thursday.
Cato said this was the second drowning incident involving a Filipino in a week and third since October.
Student Kent Espinosa drowned at the Whangarei Falls on January 11.
Espinosa, 26, was on school break from Auckland, and was also swimming with his friends when he drowned.
A Filipino drowned while trying to save his nieces in October 2018.
