20,000 troops sent off to secure Bangsamoro plebiscite

DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao: The military and police sent off about 20,000 of their personnel to secure the upcoming plebiscite on the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).

Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines chief, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde and Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Al Parreño were present to see the troops off.

Of the total, 10,000 will come from the armed forces while the other 10,000 will be from the PNP.

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Mujiv Hataman; Lt. Gen. Arnel de la Vega, commander of the military’s Western Mindanao Command; and Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, regional director of the PNP-ARMM, were also present.

Hataman said the ARMM would vote “yes” to the BOL and was confident that the conduct of the plebiscite would be peaceful. DEMPSEY REYES
