MANILA, Philippines — The easterlies continue to affect the weather, bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms across the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported yesterday.
Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao due to the easterlies, with possible flash floods or landslides anticipated from moderate to heavy rainfall.
In contrast, the weather in Metro Manila and other parts of the country is expected to have chances of localized thunderstorms.
Despite this relatively better weather, residents are advised to remain cautious due to the heat and the potential storms expected to begin this afternoon.
Fair weather conditions are expected across Luzon, but localized thunderstorms remain a possibility with temperature ranges between 24 to 33 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila and Tuguegarao, 23 to 32 degrees Celsius in Laoag, 25 to 31 degrees Celsius in Legazpi, 17 to 27 degrees Celsius in Baguio and 22 to 31 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay.
Puerto Princesa is expected to see temperatures between 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, while the Kalayaan Islands may reach up to 33 degrees Celsius.
In the Visayas and Mindanao, partly cloudy to cloudy skies will prevail, accompanied by heavy rains, thunderstorms and possible landslides. Metro Cebu is forecasted to experience temperatures between 26 to 31 degrees Celsius, while Zamboanga’s temperatures are expected to range from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius.
No ocean warnings have been issued so far, but caution is advised for those in the Visayas and Mindanao as the calm ocean conditions could give way to rising waves.
For the three-day weather outlook, Metro Manila and Baguio can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms from tomorrow to Friday, with a possibility of light rains by Saturday.
In Legazpi and the Bicol area, fair weather will likely continue until tomorrow, with possible rain expected on Friday and Saturday.
In the Visayas, Metro Cebu and Iloilo City will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms from tomorrow to Saturday.
In Tacloban, rain is anticipated from tomorrow until Friday. The highest temperatures for the region are forecasted to reach 31 degrees Celsius in Metro Cebu, 32 degrees Celsius in Iloilo City, and 30 degrees Celsius in Tacloban City.
In Mindanao, Metro Davao and Cagayan de Oro City will enjoy good weather with chances of localized thunderstorms until tomorrow. However, rain is expected to return on Friday and Saturday. In Zamboanga City, rain is also anticipated from tomorrow until Saturday.
The highest temperature in Metro Davao is expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius, while both Cagayan de Oro City and Zamboanga City will see temperatures ranging from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius.
No low-pressure areas or landslides are being monitored within or near the Philippine area of responsibility.
