MANILA, Philippines — Almost eight in 10 Filipinos trust the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and are satisfied with its performance, a commissioned survey conducted by the OCTA Research group found.
The Nov. 10 to 16 survey, which was commissioned by the AFP’s Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations, found that 76 percent of the respondents are satisfied with the performance of the military.
It was composed of 16 percent who said that they were “very satisfied” and 60 percent who were “somewhat satisfied.” Only two percent said they were dissatisfied, while 22 percent said neither.
In terms of trust, 75 percent said they trust the AFP, composed of 16 percent who said they had “strong trust” and 59 percent who “somewhat trust” the military.
Only two percent distrust the AFP, while 23 percent said they cannot say if they trust the organization or not.
OCTA said the poll is part of a broader study on the country’s civil-military relations.
It earlier released similar surveys on public perception on the Philippine Army and the Philippine Air Force. Both polls also showed high satisfaction and trust ratings on the two military branches.
The survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus three percent.
