Over 1,200 LGUs embrace automation for better transactions – Marcos

MANILA, Philippines — Over 1,200 local government units (LGUs) have begun automation efforts to enhance their transactions, said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday.

Marcos made the pronouncement during the End-Term General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) at the Manila Hotel.

In his speech, Marcos noted that the national government continues to focus on digitizing  government service and bureaucracy, as well as reinforcing collaboration with various sectors to “address the actual contemporary needs and the challenges” LGUs face.

“One concrete step in this direction is the implementation of the Electronic Business One-Stop Shop or eBOSS. As of last year, 113 out of 1,634 LGUs have fully complied with the eBOSS requirement,” said Marcos.

“Meanwhile, over 1,200 LGUs have now initiated automation efforts to enhance their transactions,” he added.

Marcos then once again the importance of digitalization, especially amid the rapid development of technology. Such efforts, he added, will prevent the country from falling behind other countries.

Due to this, he called on all government leaders, both in the national and local level to be more learned in technology in order to maximize its positive impact and improve the delivery of government services to the public.

“Napipilitan na tayo ngayon. Kailangan lahat tayo maging techie, kailangan lahat tayo… Hindi na maaari ‘yung ‘pag may gagawin kayo ipapagawa mo sa anak mo kasi hindi mo naintindihan,” said Marcos.

(We have to be in sync with the times. We all need to be techie, all of us need to… It’s no longer possible that when you do something you ask your child to do it because you didn’t understand.)

“Kailangan  maintindihan na ninyo ang technology. Kailangan maintindihan na ninyo ang bagong sistema upang ma-maximize ito para sa serbisyo sa publiko,” he added.

(You have to understand the technology. You need to understand the new system to maximize it for public service.)
