MANILA, Philippines — The Makabayan party’s senatorial candidates launched their campaign for this year’s polls at the Kartilya ng Katipunan near the Manila City Hall on Tuesday.

The following candidates, along with their supporters, gathered in the area as early as 7:30 a.m.:

  • Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) Rep. France Castro
  • Gabriela Partylist Rep. Arlene Brosas
  • Kilusang Mayo Uno Secretary General Jerome Adonis
  • Former Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Chairperson Teddy Casiño
  • Pamalakaya Vice Chairperson Ronnel Arambulo
  • Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) Chairman Mody Floranda
  • Urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) Mimi Doringo
  • Filipino Nurses United Secretary General Jocelyn Andamo
  • Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas Chairperson Danilo Ramos

Meanwhile, two of the 11 candidates are on different locations:

  • Sandugo Movement of Moro and Indigenous Peoples for Self-Determination Co-chairperson Amirah Lidasan
  • Former Gabriela Party-list Rep. Liza Maza

Based on Makabayan’s advisory, the candidates will hold a send-off ceremony at the Kartilya ng Katipunan and then conduct house-to-house campaigns in their assignment areas.

Castro will visit the Philippine Normal University in Manila, where she studied in college, among other schools.

On the other hand, Brosas will be joining the Gabriela Women’s Party in Quezon City and will then proceed to at the Kaunlaran Covered Court in Litex, Quezon City.

Casiño will join Bayan Muna’s house-to-house campaign in Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Hunters in Tatalon also in Quezon City.

For her part, Doringo will be joining the Bayan Muna house-to-house campaign in the second and third districts of Quezon City and proceed to Commonwealth Market and the Kaunlaran covered court for an event.

Floranda will be joining a mini-motorcade of a local tricycle group in Sampaloc, Manila while Adonis will be with pier workers in Parola, Tondo in Manila.

Meanwhile, Arambulo will be joining a community in Baseco in Manila together with local party-list campaigners from Bayan Muna and Gabriela Women’s Party.

Andamo will be at the University of Santo Tomas hospital in Manila, along with other health workers, while Ramos will return to Malolos in Bulacan, where he will start campaigning.

All candidates in Metro Manila are expected to gather at Plaza Noli in Manila at 4 p.m.

On the other hand, Maza and Lidasan are in Cagayan de Oro, where they will also hold a simultaneous kick-off event.
