Student arrested for selling firearms amid 2025 poll gun ban
MANILA, Philippines — A 25-year-old student from Quezon City was caught selling firearms in Makati City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced on Friday.
According to the NCRPO report, the buy-bust operation was carried out in a parking lot along Don Chino Roces Avenue Extension in Barangay Magallanes at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Authorities confiscated one 5.56 rifle and one 5.7 pistol as well as two 5.56 magazines and two 5.7 magazines loaded with 40 rounds of live ammunition.
The NCRPO said that when seeking a permit to sell firearms or a Commission on Elections certificate of authority, the suspect presented no valid credentials.
The suspect was taken to the Southern Police District Special Operations Unit office for documentation and filing of charges for violating the gun ban imposed for the 2025 elections.

“We have intensified intelligence operations to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms, especially in preparation for election security,” NCRPO Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said in a statement on Friday.
