Pepito makes landfall in Catanduanes

MANILA, Philippines — Super Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) made landfall in the vicinity of Panganiban, Catanduanes on Saturday night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa noted that the center of the eye of Pepito made landfall at 9:40 p.m.

In its 8 p.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa forecast that Pepito would “move generally west northwestward and make landfall over the northern or central portion of Catanduanes between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight.”

Further, Pepito is expected to pass over the waters north of Camarines Province (until early Sunday morning) and Polillo Islands (between Sunday morning and noon) before making another landfall over northern Quezon or central or southern Aurora between Sunday noon or afternoon.

The super typhoon will then cross the northern portion of Central Luzon and the southern portion of Northern Luzon along the upland areas of Sierra Madre, Caraballo, Cordillera Central between Sunday afternoon and evening.

The weather agency hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) across the country, with TCWS No. 5 being the highest over Catanduanes and the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur.

This may bring extreme threat to life and property, with wind speed ranging from 185 kilometers per hour or higher.
