PBA: Converge coach says ‘momentum is nothing’ vs San Miguel

MANILA, Philippines—Converge coach Franco Atienza was anything but complacent following the FiberXers’ Game 4 win over San Miguel Beer on Friday in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals.

Atienza didn’t want put too much into his team’s valiant 114-110 win over the Beermen that forced a do-or-die for a semifinals berth on Sunday.

“If you go up against a perennial championship contender, momentum is nothing,” said Atienza. “These stats, momentum, everything will be out the window. This is just one game.”

San Miguel Beer may be the more talented team but Converge has been doing their homework for the past couple of games and has been successful since falling to a 0-2 hole in the series.

Executing their game plan to T, the FiberXers put the clamps on Beermen star CJ Perez, who fouled out in GAme 4 and was limited to just 11 points.

Atienza said Game 5 will just boil down to the players’ willingness to win.

“Whoever wants it more, as cliche as that sounds, that’s the team which will take this series,” said Atienza. “It will be a dog fight on Sunday.”
