MANILA, Philippines — Despite the apparent rift between President Marcos and his elder sister Sen. Imee Marcos, the latter is assured of a slot in the administration’s senatorial slate in the 2025 polls.
According to Surigao del Norte Representative and Nacionalista Party (NP) member Robert Barbers, his party is forging an alliance with Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, currently chaired by the President.
Barbers said the alliance still has no official candidates yet for the senatorial race next year, but he has “no doubt” that the senator, being a member of NP, will be included in the administration’s senatorial bets.
The Marcos siblings are reportedly not seeing eye to eye, as evidenced by the senator’s criticisms of the people’s initiative being pushed by her brother’s allies in the House of Representatives, and her accusation that the President is “too kind” toward smugglers, among others.
