Mexico international and PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving “Chucky” Lozano said he would prefer to return to Liga MX over a rumored move to MLS, but his top choice would be to remain playing in Europe.

“Well, I’d like to go to Liga MX,” said Lozano when asked by ESPN Netherlands about a choice to play in Mexico’s top flight or MLS.

In recent days, Lozano has been a reported target of MLS expansion side San Diego FC, which is set to debut in 2025. Last week, the winger quieted those rumors, saying that he doesn’t “have that information [about SDFC pursuing me], it hasn’t reached me.”

The comments were shared shortly before Mexico’s national team for the Copa America was released with Lozano — along with fellow high-profile veterans Guillermo Ochoa and Raul Jimenez — would be left off of this summer’s Copa America roster.

Regarding his future, Lozano has said in a perfect world he would continue his career abroad.

“Honestly, I hope to be here in Europe for a long time,” said the 28-year-old. “That’s my idea, that’s my plan, but well, later in the future we’ll see what can be done. I would really like to be here for a long time, truthfully, I really like the city [of Eindhoven], I really like the people, the people at the club treat me very well.”

Last summer, Lozano signed a five-year contract with the Dutch team, which lifted this season’s 2023-24 Eredivisie title. However, it wasn’t the best year for Lozano on a individual level, as he notched six goals and three assists in 23 Eredivisie appearances and only one goal and one assist since the start of 2024.

Regarding a possible move back to Liga MX down the line, Lozano noted that boyhood club Pachuca would be his priority.

“Pachuca gave me many things, it gave me the opportunity to be in the first division,” said Lozano. “If I return to Mexico, I think the first option would be Pachuca.”
