11,000 cops to secure Metro Manila this Holy Week, summer break
MANILA, Philippines — More than 11,000 police officers will be deployed around Metro Manila to ensure peace and order during the Holy Week this month.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Saturday that their deployment will begin on Holy Monday, March 25.
It also said the increased presence of law enforcers in the capital region aims to ensure the safety of travelers as vacation is anticipated to start for some schools on April 1.
“Comprehensive measures will be implemented to address the unique challenges posed by the convergence of Holy Week observance from March 25 to 31, 2024, and the onset of the summer vacation from April 1 to May 31, 2024,” the NCRPO’s advisory states.

The NCRPO said it collaborated with local government units, other law enforcement agencies, and the private sector to create a “comprehensive security framework” that would make sure the holidays will be secure and orderly.
It stressed that “information-sharing mechanisms and joint operations will be paramount to maintaining a vigilant and responsive security machinery.”

The NCRPO also said that traffic management strategies will be implemented during the period in coordination with concerned government departments to address potential traffic congestion.
It noted the deployment of personnel at critical traffic points and the establishment of police assistance desks.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo told INQUIRER.net last Wednesday about their preparations for this year’s Holy Week and summer vacation.
Under the PNP’s “Ligtas Sumvac (Summer Vacation) 2024,” at least 34,000 police officers around commercial areas, transportation terminals, and hubs nationwide, according to Fajardo.
