MANILA, Philippines — A beach spot in tourist destination El Nido, Palawan has been included in the “34 best beaches in the world” by a United Kingdom-based travel publication.
Hidden Beach ranked 19th on the list, according to an article by journalist Lizzie Pook published by Condé Nast Traveller last Feb. 23.
Pook described the beach spot as “surrounded by imposing limestone cliffs and with startingly bone-white sand.”
Hidden Beach, which is “not quite so hidden any more” as she wrote, is unique among Palawan’s beaches as it features a “small keyhole-like opening, through which visitors must climb in order to access the lagoon,” she noted.
Pook described Palawan as being “filled with pristinely beautiful spots,” with El Nido’s Hidden Beach as “one of the world’s best.”
Hidden Beach was the only Philippine entry in Pook’s beach list, topped by Palm Cove Beach in Australia.
She said that she came up with the list of beaches which, she wrote, are “spaces that you may have to venture a little further for, but that remains incredibly beautiful and very often crowd-free.”
