MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has appealed for unity in curbing drug addiction among members of the community.

Marcos made the plea as he enjoined the public in the celebration of the 2023 Drug Abuse and Prevention Control (DAPC) Week which will be held from Nov. 12 to 19.

“Let us all work together to curb drug dependence among our affected citizens and facilitate the reintegration of persons with records of substance abuse to society,” Marcos said in a statement released by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) yesterday.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency earlier reported that 7,738 barangays in the country remain drug-affected.

During Marcos’ term as president, at least 64,862 drug suspects have been arrested, 4,468 of whom are considered high-value targets.

The DDB is set to hold a series of activities for this year’s DAPC which carries the theme “People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention.” Among these is the launch of the “TalenTODA, Barkadahan ng mga Drivers, Riders, at Barangay Kontra Droga” program on Nov. 12.

The initiative, to be participated by members of public transport groups, aims to reinforce their role as advocates of public safety and drug-free communities.

On Nov. 13, the DDB will lead a nationwide pledge of commitment to remain drug-free among national government agencies, local government units, schools and universities.

Pasig City will host a sports event called “Palarong Pinoy Laban sa Droga” to promote athletics and camaraderie among its citizens, groups and stakeholders who are supporting anti-drug.
