MANILA, Philippines — The index crime volume in the country has shown an eight percent decrease from January to September 2023, compared to the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a statement issued on Thursday, PNP, through its Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management Crime Research Analysis Center (CRAC), reported that the volume of committed crime dipped from 28,558 cases in January to September 2022, to 26,044 cases this year.
Among the top crimes committed in both years were rape, theft, and physical injury.
According to the PNP, murder, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, and carjacking cases likewise decreased this year with a drop of 8.79 percent, except for homicide, which logged an increase of 0.42 percent.

The PNP also encouraged the public to remain vigilant, report crimes, or provide information that could lead to the prevention of criminal activities.
