Southwest monsoon to prevail over parts of Northern and Central Luzon – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A now-weak southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to affect the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, the state weather bureau said Thursday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also indicated in a weather bulletin that cloudy skies prevail over the Sulu Sea, but it is not expected to develop into a low-pressure area.

“Mahinang habagat o southwest monsoon ang nakakaka-apekto sa kanlurang bahagi ng Northern Luzon at Central Luzon,” said weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio during Pagasa early morning public forecast.

Hence, the state weather agency warned of overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the southwest monsoon as Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

It likewise cautioned the public against possible flooding or landslides.

And it seemed like similar weather condition may persist until the weekend because Pagasa also said the country will see cloudy skies and scattered rain showers on Sunday.
