If you are going to create positive change, the ability to see opportunities is not enough; you must also be bold to seize and act on them. Whether you’re looking to get ahead in your personal life, career or business, here are some ways to prepare yourself to envision new opportunities, sand be ready to take them on.
1.Be self-aware
Self-awareness is a powerful tool when it comes to opening doors to new opportunities. Start by identifying your strengths, recognize areas where you can excel, and be prepared to articulate those strengths when the time comes. A crystal clear sel-assessment will help you focus on enhancing your abilities, and improve the things you can work on. If your skills or passion are not utilized properly in your current position, find another way to use them. This will broaden your exposure, position you as a team player and help you stand out.
2. Keep your ear to the ground
Opportunity is everywhere. The more open you are to what is out there, the more likely you are to recognize it. The emergence of AI, remote workplaces, and a more agile workforce make flexibility critical. Shifting priorities can help you look at change as a positive and make adjustments. Not only is this a powerful thing but it is also by taking on new challenges that you’ll find opportunities. You could volunteer to represent your current project team on committees, set up meetings with new team members, offer to learn a new skill and more. When you anticipate situations and solutions and take on additional responsibilities, you will stay ahead of the curve and opportunities will present themselves.
6. Go from goal setting to goal getting
From Olympic athletes to high achievers in every industry, leaders not only set lofty goals but also figure out a process to achieve them. Start by listing your goals and the steps needed to achieve them. Once you have set clearly defined goals, you’ll be motivated to take action, organize time and enhance your skills. Resilience and perseverance are critical to spotting and seizing opportunity. Always maintain a positive attitude, keep your ear to the ground and be aware of any changes that may be happening in your inner circle.
