Heavy rainfall alert in parts of Luzon due to Goring — Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — A heavy rainfall alert has been raised in some provinces of Luzon due to the effects of Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday.
According to its afternoon heavy rainfall update, Pagasa said some provinces within the region were placed under a “yellow” warning, which means flooding may occur, especially in low-lying areas.
Among the areas under yellow warning are Cagayan (Allacapan, Aparri, Baggao, Buguey, Camalaniugan, Gattaran, Gonzaga, Lasam, Lallo, Santa Ana, and Santa Teresita); Ilocos Sur (Santa Maria, San Esteban, Burgos, Santiago, Lidlidda, Banayoyo, San Emilio, Galimuyod, Candon City, Gregorio del Pilar, Sta. Lucia, Salcedo, Sta. Cruz, Sigay, Quirino, Cervantes, Suyo, Tagudin, Alilem, and Sugpon); and Abra (Pilar, Villaviciosa, Luba, and Tubo).
The state weather bureau said that Goring also brought light to moderate rains which may last up to three hours in the following areas:
- Camiguin Island
- Fuga Island
- Abra (Boliney, Daguioman)
- Apayao (Conner, Flora and Santa Marcela)
- Cagayan (Abulug, Alcala, Amulung, Enrile, Iguig, Peñablanca, Piat, Rizal, SantoNiño, Solana, Tuao and Tuguegarao City)
- Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Piddig and Vintar)
- Isabela (Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Dinapigue, Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan, Quirino, San Pablo, SantaMaria, Santo Tomas, and Tumauini)
Based on its 11 a.m. cyclone bulletin, Pagasa said that Goring was last spotted 155 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, carrying maximum sustained winds of 150 kph with gusts of up to 185 kph. It is moving southwestward at 10 kph over the sea east of Babuyan Islands.
