Jack Animam set to play in Women’s Chinese Basketball Association
MANILA, Philippines—Jack Animam is taking her act to the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association, becoming the first Filipino to play in China’s top-tier league.
The 6-foot-5 Animam signed with the Wuhan Shengfan, the team announced Tuesday.
“We look forward to [Animam’s] good performance in the WCBA!” the statement read.
Playing overseas is nothing new to Animam, who already had stints in Serbia and France.
The 24-year-old center is coming off a stint with Gilas Pilipinas Women in the Fiba Women’s Asia Cup in Australia where she helped the Philippines claim a breakthrough win since being promoted to Division A just a little over a month ago.
Before heading to China, Animan still has to fulfill another duty with the national team, which competes in the William Jones Cup in Taiwan beginning this weekend.
Last May, Animam also helped the country finish with the silver medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
The likes of WNBA stars A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Brittney Griner had all seen action in the WCBA.
