Success in your job or in anything you set out to do is important, for obvious reasons. Becoming successful in any endeavour not only helps you take care of yourself and your family, it also helps to build confidence and self-esteem, which can spill over to other areas of life.
So what exactly does it take to be successful? There are numerous opinions and suggestions available everywhere. Innumerable books have been written on the subject too. For the point of this discussion, we have narrowed down the list to the top ten. Valuable references have also been borrowed from Birister Sharma who has a book on the subject, as well as Chris Banescu and Marc and Angel among others. Listed below are 10 evergreen principles to consider for success.
1. The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step
Start by taking action. Take the first step. Some of the greatest ideas never made it because the genius behind the idea failed to take action. Once you get started, every step forward gets easier and easier. What once seemed unattainable now looks within reach and what once felt impossible, can now be a reality.
2. Self-belief is the secret sauce
It all starts with a strong sense of self-belief. Believe with all your heart that you will achieve what you desire. Add confidence, and commitment, and it becomes a goal that can be attained. Add determination and action, and in good time, every dream of yours will gradually come true.
3. Face yourself in the mirror
Or to put in other words, pay the price before you claim the prize. At all times, it is you who is in control of your future.. And the best part of your life will start on the day you decide to take charge and do everything in your control. You can settle for mediocrity or go all out and aim for the best. Either way you make the choice and get to reap the rewards.
4. Every attempt results in an outcome. You are either winning or learning
No one ever achieved anything of significance without failing a few times. Once in a while failure is necessary. Just go ahead and be willing to fail and learn along the way. If your first attempt didn’t turn out as you hoped, tomorrow is a new opportunity to do it differently. According to Henry Ford, failure is just an opportunity to start again intelligently.
5. Stay tenacious and persistent
It’s ok to try a few times till you get it right. It may take more than one swing to get a good hit, so make sure not to give up too soon. Always keep in mind that a river cuts through rocks not because of its power but because of its persistence over time.
6. Practice a laser-focus approach
To be totally efficient at anything, learn to focus clearly on the objective. You may feel like you are winning at multi-tasking, but it usually reduces your efficiency when you deal with many tasks. Instead, be like the postage stamp – it sticks to its focus and gets to the destination .
7. Absorb, comprehend, excel
You don’t have to come up with a fresh approach each time. Staying observant can help you achieve success too. Bet it in the job or business, many people have found success by following something that already exists and adding their enhancement to it. Seek inspiration from great ideas that already exist and improve them further.
8. If you rest, you rust
Success is not a 100 metre dash but a marathon. Strive to constantly improve. Do something each day and keep progressing. Remember, greatness is not where you are right now but e direction and goals you’re moving towards.
9. Positivity is contagious
Positive energy is the first step to success. Your positivity can inspire others and fuel productivity. Remember, successful people use positive energy to make the best of what they have and transform every situation into something useful.
10. The secret to success is giving
Solving problems is a surefire way to get successful. People who have succeeded, constantly come up with new ideas and innovative ways to solve problems and help others. You give first, then receive. This way, your dreams don’t benefit you alone, but also help others as well. Bottom line: Your success is directly linked with how efficiently you help and serve others too.
