MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig city government yesterday welcomed the finality of the Supreme Court decision that found the revenue-rich Bonifacio Global City (BGC) within its territory.
“The Supreme Court has decided with finality that jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, by superior legal rights and historic title, belongs to Taguig,” city hall said in a statement.
The city government said both parties, including the city of Makati which contested the decision, are “victors in the dispute because both put their trust in the legal system (where) rule of law prevailed.”
“The end of this legal dispute marks the beginning of a new chapter for Taguig and its people,” it said.
The high court has announced the entry of judgement of its December 2021 decision that affirmed the Pasig Regional Trial Court’s ruling siding with Taguig and denied Makati’s petition for review on certiorari.
The decision became final and executory after the high court’s special third division denied Makati’s appeal in a resolution dated Sept. 28, 2022.The decision that put the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation under Taguig’s jurisdiction also affected some of Makati’s barangays, known as “embos” or “enlisted men’s barrios.”
Makati had earlier vowed to protect its “geographical integrity.”
