Magnitude 5.6 earthquake jolts Cagayan Island

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck Dalupiri Island, Cagayan on Thursday morning, state seismologists said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic earthquake was detected 20 kilometers northwest of Calayan town at 7:31 a.m. with a depth of 43 kilometers.

No damage to infrastructure is expected but aftershocks may occur, {Phivolcs added.

No felt intensities were reported so far.

Felt intensity is the ground shaking actually felt and reported by the people through the Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale, while instrumental intensity is the ground shaking intensity measured by the intensity meters in and around the erarthquake’s epicenter.
