DSWD eyes partnership with New Zealand to digitalize, streamline programs

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is considering a partnership with New Zealand on program digitalization and streamlining.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian and New Zealand Ambassador to the Philippines Peter Kell met on Monday and discussed how to use the GovTech Accelerator Program, which is being run globally by the New Zealand-based Creative HQ.

“The GovTech Accelerator helps government agencies and public servants to identify challenges and create a positive impact in their communities by introducing them to proven innovation principles and processes,” Gatchalian said in a statement Tuesday.

He also said he intends to create an artificial intelligence (AI) messaging platform through the GovTech Accelerator Program to respond to frequently asked inquiries from DSWD clients to avoid long lines and reduce waiting times.

The secretary further said he hopes to digitalize the distribution of financial aid to qualified beneficiaries by developing an online platform for social welfare services and programs like the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations.

Among other areas for possible partnership between DSWD and New Zealand are skills development of DSWD personnel through various training and other learning exchange platforms to allow professional growth among its employees. – Kimberly D. Albaño, trainee
