Romualdez assures Negros Oriental residents: ‘Peace and order restored’

MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez on Sunday reassured residents of Negros Oriental that authorities are now on top of the murder case of Gov. Roel Degamo, adding that peace has been restored.

“We want to assure the people of Negros Oriental to remain calm because no less than the President has been on top of the situation since it occurred 24 hours ago,” said Romualdez.

“And he has ordered us to root out the perpetrators of this crime and to make sure that justice is restored, peace and order is restored to Negros Oriental,” he added.

Romualdez said this during a short briefing in the wake of Degamo.

“Rest assured, people of Negros Oriental that peace and order has been restored, there’s nothing to fear; the law enforcers, the whole of government, the Chief of Staff is here, to assure you that there will be no further crimes of this nature in Negros Oriental,” he said.

To recall, Degamo was shot dead by unidentified assailants in army and navy uniforms and in full battle gear at the receiving area inside his home in Barangay Isidro, Pamplona town on Saturday,

According to Romualdez, Negros Oriental Vice Governor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes has already taken his oath to become the new governor.
