The annual Pink Attitude Evolution (PAE) Gala returns as an in-person event happening Friday October 21st. The key topic is “Empowering the Face of Canada’s Workface” as PAE discusses the findings from their groundbreaking National Study, its on-going impact, and what companies are doing to make positive change.
The National Study was commissioned by PAE, a non-profit organization founded in 2015 with the goal of empowering South Asian women, in partnership with CulturaliQ. The results were first released during International Women’s Day 2022.
The study sheds light on the reasons South Asian women had the highest unemployment rate in Canada during COVID, July 2020, despite being highly educated. The goal of the study is to show employers what can be done to unlock the potential of a growing labour force, while creating a support system to inspire and uplift women to realize their full potential.
Some staggering results of the National Study revealed that South Asian women are twice as likely to say they are treated unfairly in the workplace with more than half (57%) saying they are ready to quit their jobs. Results show that 34% of South Asian said they were treated unfairly at work, compared with 17% of all women surveyed. More than 2,200 Canadians were surveyed.
“This study is the first of its kind in Canada and it reveals significant findings considering that over the next five years, the bulk of Canada’s labour force growth will be from immigration,” says Ruby Dhillon, CEO and Founder of Pink Attitude Evolution. “What stood out for me is the issue of inequality, from my parent’s generation until now. My mom was highly educated and did not receive the recognition she deserved. When I saw the results of the National Study, I realized that this inequality is still happening. I knew it was there, but now we have the number to prove it. The good news is what’s being done about it. We are delighted that many corporations have come on board to develop and launch programs and scholarships for South Asian women to help propel their careers forward.”
CulturaliQ is a leading Toronto-based market research and strategy agency which focuses exclusively on the cultural markets in North America, helping clients to identify untapped cultural market opportunities. Founding Principal John Stevenson talks about the National Study: “We have been keenly aware of the underutilization of South Asian women in the work force. The first step in developing an effective national strategy is to understand the reasons for these statistics”
The research is supported by several top organizations across Canada including TD, Deloitte, NATIONAL Public Relations, Sephora, City of Brampton, Automotive Parts Manufacturer’s Association, EY, Scotiabank and IGM Financial.
The Pink Attitude Evolution gala will be held on Friday October 21 at 6 p.m. at the Queen’s Manor Event Centre, 2 Auction Lane, Brampton. Tickets are $100 per ticket or $1,000 for a table of 10 and include dinner. To book tickets visit www.pinkattitude.ca.
