IT’S GOING TO BE AN INDIA-WALI DIWALI – OCTOBER 8 & 9, 2022

The federally registered not-for-profit organization, Indo-Canada Arts Council (ICAC), is gearing up to entertain the crowds of Mississauga and surrounding cities, with Bell presents Diwali Razzmatazz Mississauga, part of Sunray Groups Canada Diwali Festival series.  The Mississauga event takes place at Celebration Square on Oct 8 (12PM -11PM) and Oct 9 (12PM – 9PM).  Along with cultural music and dance, ICAC will also be presenting food, handicrafts and clothing from all over India. This year’s tagline is “Indiawali Diwali” and is representative of the North, South, East and Western parts of India. The festivals have several components including hands-on workshops, a giant Laddu creation that will be 750 Lbs representing India’s 75th year of independence as well as many other highlights.

This annual DIWALI RAZZMATZZ festival organized by the Indo-Canada Arts Council has become a large crowd pulling event which is fondly attended by a wide diaspora of ethnicities in the heart of Mississauga. With more than 75000 people attending the festival over past years at Mississauga Celebration Square, this is the first time the festival will be back to full strength after the last two and a half years of pandemic restrictions. This year the festival extends to 5 events across GTA including Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga, St Catharines and Niagara Falls. With the support of various community organizations, ICAC and their inspiring volunteers provide a platform for artists and performers from different faiths and beliefs to come together and enjoy the FREE outdoor festive celebrations as one big family.

A phenomenal Indo-Jazz music group, Kabir Café or Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Café is an Indian indie-folk and folk-fusion music band based in Mumbai best known for performing songs composed out of Saint Kabir’s Dohas. British-Indian playback singer-songwriter and bhangra Record producer Sukshinder Shinda, who has produced many hit records over the last 3 decades including Bhangra, Punjabi and Bollywood movies, will be a key highlight on October 8th.

Singing duos include the beautiful voices of India’s favourite singing couple, award winning playback singers, Samir & Dipalee, as well as local favourites Saad & Ankita.

Excited dance fans can look forward to the classical and fusion dance performances by the talented Reign Yash Dance group, led by Yash Koppola. Shilompoli Shethra Dance Academy choreographed and directed by Jenani Kumar. Nritya Kala Mandir, a school for committed budding artists to learn for excellence and to practice for perfection to express their devotion to dance are set to wow the crowds with their Bharatnatyam. Danseuse Enakshi Sinha and her students from Mrudanga Dance Academy will perform the classical Odissi dances and Folk dances of Western Orissa.

Diwali Razzmatazz is a free and open festival that has crowds dancing and humming to old and new songs in numerous languages from bands and individual artists from the GTA like Amrita Mathur, young talented Pavani Ashoka, 3 time Canadian Latin Music award recipient, Teria Morada of Azucar Picante ENT, as well as dancers Daria Novoselova and Roberto Quaresma, Devon Dane Daniel Gulston also known as Tallup, whose dance has been enriched with the island beat pulsing through his veins, giving him a unique sense of timing and grooveFestival Founder Ajaay Modi says, “This year, Diwali Razzmatazz is ensuring that it is truly an India wali celebration that is representative of all parts of India, from music, dance, food and the celebration of cultural traditions! Whether you like to dance to the beats of Bollywood or sway to diverse music, get a taste of mouth-watering South Asian cuisine or buy a souvenir, it will be a festival to remember this upcoming weekend!

Festival artistic Director Ratika Modi says, “this year we have over 450 artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds celebrating arts and culture”.
